#40,103 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Know what you’re signing up for before you buy this, I recommend actually taking a swing at that sample. Those expecting this to be like any other book will be surprised.First, the writing is terrible. It feels like the original version, which I expect was Chinese, went through Google Translate. You aren’t going to be reading elegant prose. You’re reading a mess of mis-used adjectives, repetitive descriptions, botched idioms, and the like. Characters don’t “sense” something or “feel it in their gut”. Instead, they “feel in their hearts”, even for minor things. Most things are excessively wordy, and a woman’s breasts are repeatedly referred to either as “twin peaks” or “flatlands”On that topic, the description of the women is rather off-putting. I expect this is cultural, but it’s pretty uncomfortable. Stories in this vein (wuxia, maybe a bit of xianxia) tend to include some sort of harem fantasy subplot. It hasn’t gotten there yet as of the end of book two, but it’s trending that way. Women see a man with confidence or money and immediately start snuggling up to them. Attractive women are mentioned at length as the eyes of all men follow them, other women are largely disregarded. It’s kinda gross, but so far I haven’t had too much trouble just skimming those parts. It’s very wordy. For books that aren’t that long, they sure do spend a lot of time overexplaining things. Comparisons to how a standard level x person would do against a given enemy are constant, and then of course the main character obliterates the thing at a lower level. I get that we’re advertising his mastery of the game, but it’s annoying. Similarly, there’s constant over-analyzation of other players’ equipment. Finally, random bystanders will occasionally weigh in on an issue to give perspective. These are never concise. Look forward to a two page monologue from unnamed individuals in the crowd that provide unholy amounts of exposition.I take issue with some of the game logic. Overall, it seems the author put a reasonable amount of thought into game mechanics and such, but the main character gets lucky too often and I have trouble with the scale. Right now everything is low level, a level five would obliterate a level three. But then our MC destroys something six levels higher than he is, and he does it constantly. Meanwhile individual level ups don’t seem to actually influence power all that directly. Plus I’m just not sure the framework is in place to allow for this guy hitting the max level, 200. Maybe that’s just me. It’s not a huge deal, just an annoyance.Lastly, the main character doesn’t seem to have much of a personality. I don’t dislike him, I just don’t really care about him. This hasn’t been a huge issue for me, but it’s of note.

I'll start by saying I've read all the currently translated chapters. Far more than all the published books (as of 8/4/18).The main character is a good guy and is well developed as far as the author allows. The story itself is excellent and an enjoyable read. I would recommended reading the book. So why only 3 stars? The biggest issue is the author writing on a 1:5 basis. There is roughly one chapter of story for every 5 chapters of overly detailed explanations. Seriously, I think the author could take 5 chapters just to describe dirt. Tedious beyond belief. The other glaring issue, but common among these type of novels is the utter and complete lack of social development. We get no real feel for the emotional depth of the MC. The author points out how beautiful the women are, so the MC is obviously aware, but to this point he hasn't even held a girl's hand. It leaves you feeling like it's very two dimensional. Friendships and relationships are not a part of this book.If you can skim through the tedious explanations, this book still rates reading.I do have an issue with another reviewer who is giving misinformation. The women in this book are generally shown as competent, intelligent, strong fighters, and in no way are they demeaned. This reviewer also claims he can see a harem coming. Don't listen to him unless he has a crystal ball. It hasn't happened yet after roughly 11 books of reading and the MC hasn't even held a girl's hand. This reviewer is doing everyone a disservice by making things up due to his own imaginings. As for his other complaint, he doesn't like the way Chinese people express themselves. He complains about their idioms and way of speaking, blaming it on translation.Sorry for the last paragraph. But I felt someone should point out how wrong that information was.

As you can surmise from the headline I originally found RSSG on the website Gravity Tales. After reading several other stories with similar or the same premise I found that this one was the best by far. I ended up binge reading all 50 of the chapters that had been translated at that point & I even started looking forward to the daily new chapter. I watched as RSSG slowly rose through the ranks going from not even being on the top 10 GT monthly ranking list to #3 & even getting this eBook, which I purchased to show my support. Even this review, I have had to rewrite this 4 times due to technical issues. I almost gave up but I felt compelled to complete it because I've enjoyed RSSG so much. My thanks to the author & their editor also to the translator & their editor. Thank you for all or your hard work & I look forward to future chapters.

Cons: A lot of the game mechanics and cool down timers happen off the page only making an appearance in the book to conveniently explain, after the fact, how the main character completed some goal.Pros: A small but nonetheless existent glossary is in the back of the book with quick reference links for easy use placed as necessary throughout the book. Next, the adventures feel authentic and believable, the author came up with a really good reason for his main characters talents and abilities. Also, the main character is mature in various situations, coming up with elegant solutions to them all the while.
